What no smoking signs need to be displayed? The new no smoking laws require the display of no-smoking signs that meet the following minimum requirements in smokefree premises and vehicles.
No-smoking signs in smokefree premises
No-smoking signs will need to be displayed in a prominent position at every entrance to smokefree premises. The signs must meet the following requirements-
They must be a minimum of A5 in area (210mm x 148mm).
They must display the international no-smoking symbol, which consists solely of a graphic representation of a single burning cigarette enclosed in a red circle of at least 70mm in diameter with a red bar across it. You will note that the signs sold on this site all meet this requirement.
They must include the following words in characters that can be easily read:
"No smoking. It is against the law to smoke in these premises". You will note that our A5 signs include these words as required by law.
Smaller signs may also be used
A small sign consisting of the international no-smoking symbol at least 70mm in diameter may be displayed at entrances to smokefree premises under the following circumstances:
The premises are only used by members of staff (providing the premises displays at least one A5 area sign with words, as set out above), or
The premises are located within larger smokefree premises (for example, a restaurant within an indoor shopping centre).
No-smoking signs in smokefree vehicles
Smokefree vehicles will need to display a no-smoking sign in each compartment of the vehicle in which people can be carried. These no-smoking signs must display the international no-smoking symbol at least 70mm in diameter.
It is not required to use the A5 signs so the smaller sign may be preferred.
